In this section, I present to you my collection of Rebel and Imperial starfighters. I designed them to retain as much of their distinctive shapes and proportions as possible in mini scale, or at least as much as I was able to manage.

The four Rebel fighters were a bit easier to build because they usually have elongated cockpits and some kind of more or less conventional structure. The biggest challenge for me was definitely the B-Wing. I simply had no idea how to build the central section with the engines. In the end, what you see is basically the best solution I managed to come up with after about 20 attempts. That was honestly my limit. All the other versions kept falling apart whenever I handled the model.

The TIE fighters were much harder. At this scale, you really realize how insanely limited you are by the existing LEGO parts. There simply aren’t many ways to build these fighters. It’s basically just a ball with a cockpit and panels on the sides. In the end, I solved it by buying several 30685 sets and using some of their parts, mainly the cockpit canopies, because I just couldn’t find them anywhere else.
These fighters from the original LEGO sets were designed mainly as play sets, so their cockpits are very blocky. They hold together really well, which is nice, but visually I didn’t really like them. Eventually, I went with one of the fairly common solutions the community often uses at this scale, because to me it simply looks like the best overall option, even if the sturdiness is not completely ideal.
